Someone reminded me that in the first blog I promised to write about children so here we are …
Children are a gift from God and he who has many is considered blessed ..well we are blessed with 3 amazing babies. King, Gold and Crown….oh what a journey it is …someday,I will share their birth stories.
Before we got married we had the children conversation like any dating couple , we agreed to wait 2 year without a child so that we get to understand each other and spend some time together before children came along and this we pronounced ourselves and even put it in prayer.
No one explained that the reality meant deliberate family planning and solid resolve to deal with the extended family enquiry of if all was okay as well as the prying eyes of the friends wondering calamity of childlessness had befallen us.
While we had a blast those two years…without family planning, there were times we had to ask God why he had to literally take our prayer request. The pressure, though subtle was beginning to build in. We continually reminded ourselves of the prayer and rested in the comfort that we were in the answer… thanks to my faith that was up there those days.
6 months into the marriage people start asking ( given my weight at the wedding some people actually thought I was pregnant thus the reason I was getting married immediately after school) so 6 months was all I got . What made all this bearable was the fact that we had told the most important people that we were waiting for 2 years and they were in support because honestly we were young , my husband had just finished his second degree( he did this to wait for me to finish mine ) and I was literally 22 so having children wasn’t anywhere close
We continued our exciting life until 1 year and 4 months later when we lost our biggest supporter, now life got real, at her funeral people would stop me and tell me to my face that she would have seen her grand child if you were not selfish enough to refuse to get pregnant, now the emotional me could not stand the questions and stares so I withdrew abit and then I started asking myself, were they right ? Were we being selfish? Anyway my husband assured me she supported our decision and that’s what mattered
I believed him but it started pounding in my mind , I needed a child urgently , the things we tell ourselves, the unnecessary pressure from outside, my husband kept reminding me that we asked God for two years and I told him it was easy for him since they were all assuming I had a problem and not giving my husband children but yet deep down I knew what he was saying was true. He kept telling me that until I found peace and waited on God as I had asked before and long story short on our 2nd anniversary we conceived our first born
Finally we were pregnant but I don’t think I was ready for what that meant , ever since that time I respect mothers, there are things they can’t prepare you for and pregnancy is one of them, no amount of reading, hearing people’s stories can actually prepare you for it, it’s beautiful, strange all in one, there are nights I needed help simply turning in bed ( bless my husband) I didn’t know the person in the mirror every time I looked there and I just stopped looking in the mirror , and what’s strange is every child is different , for King ,Gold and crown each pregnancy was unique but they arrived and we forgot the pain and enjoyed the children
When the first child arrived my father in law told me one thing , your task is done, anything after this is his, the bathing, the feeding all for the father. I had never heard words more exciting than that and I took them to heart, and faithful to his father’s words my husband never let me do much with the children, he took care of whatever concerned them . But why am I saying all this ? Children are a blessing…God gives and His timing is never wrong,2 or 10 years, their arrival will quickly erase the memories of pain, long wait, uncertainty, long glares and past losses.
Am blessed to have experienced a received this gift and for my 15th,I take this moment to to say Ebenezer…and by the way, 22 years ago, preparing to take my exam laying on my back with excruciating back pain-child birth was a medical impossibility… Today,I enjoy the gift-a life miracle
So marriage without over explaining is simply two families coming together and being one , of course not the easiest knowing that each family brings a unique element to it and yet they must align.
Coming from a nuclear polygamous family all I knew was the 11 of us( that’s nuclear don’t argue ) I get married to a man who introduced me to like 10 sisters , 15 brothers and all the same ages so clearly they can’t be siblings yet they treat themselves as such so I had to adjust. I opened my heart and the joining began. Now most of us struggle with in-laws and In loves but most times it’s because of what we have been told even before seeing them.
Before any girl gets married they are told how they are going to find a mean mother in law and meaner sisters in law. My take is these are people’s stories and they don’t have to be yours, allow yourself to write your story and see how it goes, you will be shocked because many times we have got the best of friends from these sisters and brothers in law. Anyway that aside this isnt about your in-laws it’s about my husband that God gave me 15 years ago and am going to tell you a story about him and his inlaws
One day while my sister was out of the country with her daughter for treatment i recieve a call from the daughter that my sister was unwell, now remember the close knit family I talked about, this sister was the closest of them and here she was in another country and unwell. I sat in my dressing room cried, prayed as I spoke to the little girl. But my heart ached knowing I couldnt do much and then In my head I wondered where my husband was because I picked the call when he was close by but here I was alone ( this would have gone badly had I not been preoccupied with my sister’s pain)
Long story short I get off the phone and I find him on the bed with my passport in hand applying for a visa for me to travel and find my sister , he was actually done with the application and I got the visa the next day and was able to go be with her , and I actually did .Now all this while am wondering do I actually deserve this , have I treated his family that well in the last, would I have done the same if the tables were reversed and it’s his sister that needed help.
As humans we are selfish by nature and this is seen in so many homes , you find the women have like 5 relatives in the home while the man has 1 or none and even the one there,it’s continuous fights ( I know there are outliers where the reverse is true but as I have said they are outliers ) then the visits can also be one sided the you find the children know all the maternal aunties but non from the fathers side and it made me wonder , are we aware that in marriage when we commit to being one we actually do mean half and half not three quarters and a quarter , join me as I examine myself , am I being selfish, am I treating my spouse fairly , am I treating his family the way I want him to treat mine. How I pray the answer is yes to that
Alot of things to reflect on and sincerely,no judgement here I know some who will say I have done all this and they still hate me or worse still like my friend recently who was in hospital with the mother in law for 2 weeks and when they got home the same mother received her co wife and the husbands new born baby , these leave a bitter test in our mouth and I know all that but can you give your best untill proven otherwise . Family is a gift and we need to treat it as such. It’s still a work in progress for me but I hope we can take this journey together and like my amazing husband you can treat your in-laws better than the actual person treats them
That then is the true meaning of where you go ,I will go, your people will be my people and your God my God . Many of us have said that but how many of us can walk the talk .
So I met this lovely man at a time I didn’t love myself too much so I was shocked that someone else could love me , I remember trying to set him up with other people because honestly I knew he deserved better
Little did I know that God had a good plan for me and it was wrapped in this one man.
Now given my background I was always skeptical about marriage , I, like most of us saw marriages like a sham, I saw heartbreaks in every marriage , fights , anger and married people always looking sideways in every car you met on the road . You didn’t have to be told that they were married, you could just see, if you saw a man and a woman in a car and they are laughing they were either just dating or worst still they were cheating . Really who would in their right mind want to join a miserable lot.. but here I was and this man was saying he would make me happy
Fast track we get married being sure that this is what God wanted for me and this man telling me he will prove me wrong about marriage, man has he done that beyond my wildest dreams.
When we start out definetely it’s sunshine , we would move together, laugh alot, watch movies till morning and yeah life was good. But everyone knew that eventually it would pass, it was the honey moon phase ( honestly I was one of them , waiting to see when it would end and reality would kick in ) oh God has showed me that I was truly wrong.
Anyway back to the topic for today, the gift of friendship, my husband was my friend but more than that we spent alot of time together , let me tell you people, what you nurture grows , we give work alot of prominence and forget what is important, now this man learnt that, he involved me in everything that concerned him , I knew every work mate, I remember he had to work on Sundays when we were just married and he would take me with him to wait in the lounge for the 4 hour he had to work , it seemed small but it was growing us, I got to understand his work, his friends and everything in between
Of course for us it was possible because we took 3 years without a child , would I encourage newly weds to do the same , definetely, this time helped bond us , we got to know who we are before we got lost in children and upto now our children whereas we love them to death, they know daddy and mummy come first. But as I said earlier I kept waiting for the turn when he would change but luckily for me I was disappointed.
All of us have friends and we talk all the time , we forgive our friends easily and we pour into these friends , imagine we did the same for our marriages .. imagine you understood that he is late not because he wants to annoy you but genuinely couldn’t help it, imagine we gave our spouses the same grace we extend friends, wouldn’t we have better marriages? At the beginning of our marriage, Apo told me one thing ,if I hurt you it’s never on purpose ,it’s just happened and take it at that and forgive me and that has helped me alot, when am I hurt I remember he didnt intend and it makes forgiveness easy
Of course someone will say it’s easier said than done but we do this for other people , can we do the same for our spouses , and you see what hurts is things start small and then they just blow out of proportion for example Apo always comes home early , 15 years and he still does, one day it gets to 6,7pm and he is not yet home, he hasn’t communicated and his phone is off, I get scared , now in my head he is lying in a ditch somewhere hurt and I can’t fathom the thought of him hurt, I then get angry and i start to say why couldnt he have called me before leaving so I know where to start looking ( I know it sounds childish right ) am sure many ladies would have thought of worse but for me that was never an option . Anyway fast track he arrived and relief and anger all mix and I didn’t want to hear what he had to say but being who he is he finds a way to calmly tell me how the bid document run longer than expected and that’s how he is arriving at 9pm( unprecedented on our side so don’t judge )
Anyway if it was your friend we would give reasons , and excuses for them but many times for our spouses we don’t and that’s why we end up in bad places, look back, how many conversations would have gone better had we extended more grace ? Anyway am not here to lecture am here to share a story of a friend that has been by my side for 15 years without getting tired.
Friendship is a beautiful thing, I have friends I can’t take a day without hearing from and a new friend whom I hear from once a month , whom do you think I will be closest to? Same applies to our spouses , I still wonder how your spouse is away for work and you next hear from each other when they return, how then will they be close to you, alot happens in the day and thanks to social media you can now just text, people we must grow our friendships intentionally with our spouses , it’s the only way we make marriage work, friendship out lives the butterflies and love,it’s what holds us together on days someone tells you they saw your wife with another man, it’s what holds us when we look any how just after giving birth, it’s friendship that will help you understand when he says he is getting tired of your nagging tone( yes it gets to that )
I have over spiralled but my prayer today is we get back to being friends with our spouses. Or look for it where you lost it, forgive the wrongs the way you do for your friends and see how marriage will flourish
I have been blessed to have a friend in Apo, he has forgiven me more times than I care to imagine and been there on days I wouldn’t want to even be there for myself..I wish that for all of us because I know it’s what God intended for us as marrieds but as I said earlier it will take work and intentionality.
Give it a try today and enjoy the gift of friendship…
Tomorrow we talk about the gift of children, catch you then…
The first voice I heard, the first hug I got
The first smile , the first advice all from her
The gentle soul she is
Kind and considerate ,putting everyone else
above her without a thought
My mother
So loving , selfless, available
A definition of love like no other
You taught us to love fully
Forgive truly and
Give without expecting back
Oh my mother
Never getting tired,never showing defeat
Always encouraging
Always believing
Always hoping
Always joyful
My mother
From greeting everyone on the road
To running around till she finds what you want
Not minding if on a boda or taxi or even on foot
To washing all the utensils at the function
My mother
In the darknest of nights you are closest
As we receive our babies ,you are there
In the joys you are there , oh my mother
If given a choice I would choose you again
You are a blessing we never deserved , a joy we are grateful for
Happy birthday my mother
A 13 year old girl stood in the doctors office ,with pain radiating through her back but yet she was met with kindness and a smile on the doctors face. He slowly explained to her what could be the cause of the pain in a language her little mind could comprehend
That started the beginning of many such sessions for this young girl but also brought hope that one day she will be better. The treatments then started, the Mris ,CT scans were done and each of them would end in the same way, with the Dr explaining each with a patience that has set the bar way up high for all the doctors to be met even in the future .
When pain meds failed to do much, the doctor suggested massage as therapy and to this young girl it was something to be done by nurses or anyone else but not the doctor but to her dismay the Dr took it upon himself to massage the back himself for session after session and he never tired.
When the therapy didn’t seem to work, one friday evening he told the girl and her family that it was time to try surgery and try to replace the slipped disk.. it was one of those days never to be forgotten. The girl stared from the mother to the father and they all seemed lost and hopeless about what was going on. The doctor seeing this went ahead and explained the consequences of the surgery and that made the fear on their faces even worse ,but he encouraged them that he would do alot of research and consultation and give them feedback on Monday morning .
To say that the weekend was long is an understatement but Monday did come and going back to hospital the silence could be cut with a knife but on getting to the doctors office he told them that after several consultations the operation was not necessary and was going to try another type of medication
I can go on and on but bottom line is God used this doctor to bring hope to a little girl, to pay attention to the details that others would normally miss and above all to show kindness and care to a little girl
Its with sadness that I heard of his passing and it brought out all those moments and regret that I never went back to appreciate the things I thought were normal then but I hope this does that in some way
Dr Shiraz set a bar for all doctors i have met to this day, he made me believe that medical doctors are meant to be kind and that alone heals more than the medicine they prescribe ,but also that explaining to the patient goes a long way to help them heal.
Rest well doctor.. you left a mark on a little girl now turned lady that tries to care the way you did and be available for sick people as much as possible.
The handsome man in the mirror.
As i stand quietly and look in the mirror I see the lines on your face, a map of all the years past
The silver strands, a gentle whisper of time’s soft touch, on your gentle soul
Your eyes, they sparkle, like stars in the night Illuminating the path as I stare at you in the mirror
Your smile, a gentle breeze, that soothes my soul The warm embrace speaks of home, familiar, safe space
I see the doubt, that creeps in your mind, when you gaze in the mirror, and wonder if you’re still handsome or defined by the grey that’s crept, into your locks ,beard and eyebrows and i see the fear that you are nolonger as handsome
I ache to tell you that that’s just a part, of the story that unfolds because you remain handsome to me as the days unfold
Your worth, is not in the hair on your head It’s in the love you share, the memories we’ve spread It’s in the laughter, the tears, the fights the moments we’ve shared, through the dark of night You’re more than just your looks, more than just your frame, more than the fading scar on your face
You’re a beautiful soul, with a heart that’s pure and true
Your grey hair’s just a sign, of the life you’ve lived and what lies ahead A life filled with love, and moments you ve been given
So don’t you hide, behind the veil of doubt, your beauty, my dear, is more than skin deep
It’s in the kindness, that you show to all around you, the generosity that you have in every situation ,the way you love, with a heart that’s standing tall and give of yourself so freely with no reservation.
The night air was thick with secrets that Thursday, my phone glowing in the dark as your messages lit up the screen. Each buzz sent a thrill through me, our conversation a slow burn that started with playful teasing—little jabs about the day, a shared joke that made me smile into the shadows. But soon, the words turned electric. Your question, “What would you do if I was there right now?” hung in the air, bold and daring. My reply was a whisper typed in the dark: my fingers grazing your jaw, your breath catching as I leaned closer, the imagined press of your body against mine.
Each message wove a spell, confessions of desire spilling out until the night faded into a haze of anticipation. We fell asleep with promises lingering, a vow to make them real tomorrow.
Friday morning carried a restless hum. I stood at the junction near my place, the city waking slowly around me. I’d chosen my outfit with care—a soft, fitted top that caught the morning light, jeans that hugged my curves, a quiet nod to the fantasies we’d traded. The air was crisp, and my pulse quickened when I saw your car pull up, your silhouette familiar yet thrilling. You stepped out, eyes locking onto mine with a heat that echoed last night’s words. “Ready?” you asked, your voice low, a smile tugging at the corner of your lips. I nodded, sliding into the passenger seat, the space between us already charged i could feel the heat regardless of the ac that was on.
As you drove us out of the city, away from the noise, to a quiet Airbnb tucked in a secluded corner where trees whispered and the world felt far away. I could feel my heart beat as i started to get wet. We approached the place you’d told me about in one of your messages—a cozy hideaway with warm wood floors and windows that let in slanted sunlight. As we stepped inside, the door clicked shut, and the silence wrapped around us like a secret. No need for words; the tension from our late-night texts pulsed in the air.
You turned to me, your hand finding mine, fingers lacing together as you pulled me close. “So,” you murmured, your breath warm against my ear as you gave me the warmest engulfing hug that i had been dreaming about, and as i was still lost in that you whispered in my ear “about those messages…” My laugh was soft, swallowed by the press of your lips, slow and deliberate, tasting of the promises we’d made. We moved like we’d choreographed it in our minds—my hands tracing the lines we’d described, your collarbone, the curve of your spine, each touch a spark igniting what we’d imagined. You teased me with a line I’d sent, something bold about where my hands would wander, and I felt the heat rise, my skin flushing under your gaze.
The feel of your hands as they moved on my skin were literally making me feel a fire in every part of my body. The gentle caresses as you massaged me from head to toe and later replacing your hands with your lips till I couldn’t take it anymore
The afternoon melted away in that quiet haven, each moment a living echo of our words. Your fingers brushed the hem of my top, slow and deliberate, as we explored the map we’d drawn in the dark. Sunlight spilled through the windows, painting your skin in gold, and I thought, This is what it means to turn words into fire. We moved with care, savoring every glance, every touch, the world outside forgotten.
As dusk settled, we lay tangled in the stillness, the Airbnb’s quiet wrapping us in its embrace. Your fingers traced lazy circles on my arm, and you whispered, “Better than the texts?” I grinned, pressing closer, my lips brushing your shoulder. “Better,” I said, “but let’s keep texting
Getting married,we have different reasons why we do it, of course there are some that are universal like companionship, love and children but ofcourse there are those who get married to get a way from home and recently I learnt people get married to avoid paying rent
Anyway, for whatever reason you get married, we get some fruits from these marriages, and this particular time, we are talking about children.
With this amazing coach Teddy Mayanja we get to the details of how to prepare for them beginning with before you concieve, praying for your womb, preparing it, sanctifying the fathers dedicating the child, naming them and all other things needed in grooming a holy child
It’s amazing how things we take for granted like middle child syndrome, sibling rivalry can all be tagged to something we as parent do when the child is just born or even not born yet, join me this Saturday at 6pm on Ring Diaries as we go into details of the holy beginnings of these wonderful fruits of our marriages with Coach Teddy Mayanja and you will be amazed ..
Technology, Technology, technology….
One of the greatest innovations of our generation yet also one of the evils if not properly handled… This week we talk about technology and its effect on marriage, how are we using it, is it to make communication better, is it to make long distance relationships better or it’s to make people far more important than the marriage. What do you do when your spouse gets back home, do you put down the phone and have a face to face or you keep on your phone
Is the TV in your bedroom and, by the way, which other ways have you harnessed technology to make your marriage better and so many discussions around technology. Join me this Saturday at 6 pm with Ring Diaries on Church of Uganda Family TV as we have this intriguing discussion with Diana Tubihamye Musinguzi.
This is one of those times I actually need to listen more attentively because honestly am a student on this subject.. See you then
